Tunisian Airlines carried 2.2 million travelers through August
Tunisia, Economics, 9/29/1997

Statistics issued by the Tunisian Airlines showed that its planes carried 2.2 million travelers through the first 8 months of the current year compared to 1.1 million through the same period last year.

The number of passengers increased an unprecedented rate of 20% through the summer months. This progress was achieved due to three factors: the influx of tourists coming to Tunisia, the influx of Tunisian labor coming back to spend their holiday with their families, and the increasing number of normal flights which is estimated at about 22%. The exceptional flights increased by about 15% only.

Sources in the Tunisian Airlines stated that this progress encouraged the board of directors to implement the program of renovating the Tunisian fleet and of buying 15 new Boeing and Airbus planes before the year 2005, 4 planes of which will be bought next year and 5 will be bought before 1999.
