Germany supports Qatar in MENA
Qatar, Politics, 9/29/1997
Germany reiterated its support for Qatar's commitment to holding the Middle East and North Africa economic summit (MENA) due to be held in Doha, Qatar in November. Germany's support for Qatar was expressed during a conference held by the German Economic Initiative for the Middle East and North Africa in cooperation with Federation of German chambers of commerce and industry.
The German minister of economy affirmed that his country saw in MENA an important opportunity to support peace efforts in the Middle East and strengthen economic ties among Middle East and North African countries. He expressed hope that German participation would be a notable one in the summit.
The conference was attended by leading German and international personalities and a number of heads of diplomatic missions in Germany. A Qatari delegation was present at the conference led by the Qatari ambassador to Berlin.
Qatar's ambassador noted that Berlin's preparatory conference for MENA reflected Germany's commitment to participating in the summit and boosting its economic relations in the region. He assured that MENA would succeed, as previous summits did, in presenting new economic cooperation concepts for the post-peace era. He said that MENA would offer an opportunity for German and international economists to familiarize themselves with Qatar's investment potential.
