Syrian seminar on modern oil techniques

Syrian Minister of Oil and Minerals Resources Mohammed Maher Jamal on September 29 opened a seminar on "the role of modern techniques of increasing oil reserves and production capacity in the Arab countries," which is organized by the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) in collaboration with Ministry of Oil at the Sheraton Hotel.
Jamal talked about the importance of the seminar which discusses the use of the latest techniques in the world to increase oil reserves. Later, he received the secretary general of OAPEC, Abdul Aziz Al Turki.
Talks dealt with issues concerning the deliberations of the Scientific Symposium on oil which opens on September 28. The talks also dealt with preparations for holding the sixth Arab Energy Conference in Damascus on May 10 through 13, 1998.
The minister discussed the importance of joint Arab action, especially under the current circumstances in which world countries seek to establish economic blocs. He stressed Syria's permanent support for any joint Arab action, and any form of Arab economic integration.
For his part, the OAPEC secretary general praised Syria's constructive and positive role in supporting the organization's projects.
The two sides agreed on formulating a joint committee with the purpose of coordinating preparations for holding the sixth Arab Energy Conference.
