American companies to work on the production of natural gas
Lebanon, Business, 9/27/1997
The Lebanese Ministry of Water and Electric Resources mentioned that 6 American companies declared their interest in building a laboratory to produce liquid gas with a cost of $500 thousand to operate the electric stations in Lebanon.
The American companies declared their readiness to submit proposals to run the project and to offer advisory services to set up the liquid natural gas network and a port for unloading and distributing the gas through pipelines stretching along the Lebanese coast in order to meet the needs of the main electricity generation station in Lebanon.
The American companies: Bectel Houston; ABB; Lomos Global; Parsons Corporation of Pasadena California; Braun and Angus Young of Tolloson, Oklahoma; and York and Gings Services of Charlotte, North Carolina, sent representatives to Beirut to discuss the project with the cabinet.
The natural gas project is considered the biggest project to be implemented since the civil war. It will protect the environment from the pollution caused by getting energy through the oil derivatives which are used now. The companies implementing the project will submit their final proposals before the end of the year.
This is the first time American companies will implement energy projects after the lifting of the ban prohibiting US citizens from traveling to Lebanon last July. The companies that implemented the energy projects before were either European or Asian.
