Yemeni oil reserves at 4 billion barrels
Yemen, Economics, 9/26/1997
Yemeni reserves of raw oil were estimated to be about 4 billion barrels, of which 1380 million barrels are found in Maareb, 1580 billion barrels in Al Masila, 250 million barrels in Shebua, and 750 million barrels in Gana.
There are positive indications in other areas of Shebua, like the area of Damis section S1 operated by Shell, Al Aqila area section S2 operated by Occidental, and Al Gerdan section S3 operated by Shefron Agib, and Al Hegara area section 9 operated by British Riches Gas.
Yemen currently produces between 375 and 380 million barrels a day, which will increase by next April to 405 million barrels, as between 20 to 25 thousand barrels will be added to the production from section 10 east of Shebua operated by Total and its partners Chemico, Onical and Quebec.
In the first half of the nineties, oil companies implemented many geophysical and geological excavations about 240 thousand km in the Yemeni ground and water. 170 excavation wells and 369 developing wells were dug in Maareb, Masila and Gana.
