Saudi Arabia, Politics, 9/25/1997

There are indications of increased military cooperation between Saudi Arabia and South Africa. The two countries are exchanging extensive official visits but no precise information on the details of issues discussed during those visits has been given.

South African Chief of Staff George Beong is expected to arrive on Saturday in Riyadh for a two-day official visit to Saudi Arabia. Saudi daily Al-Riyadh reported today and stated that the visit comes in the context of increasing cooperation between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Saudi Second Deputy Premier, Defense and Aviation Minister and General Inspector Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz is currently on an official visit to South Africa where he met with the country's Vice President Thabo Mbeki and discussed with him areas of cooperation and issues of mutual interest, including the purchase of military equipement.
