Top executives of successful GCC firms to meet in Dhahran
Gulf Region, Business, 9/25/1997

The Saudi city of Dhahran will witness on November 25-26 a gathering of executives of the 10 most successful Gulf Cooperation Council private ventures over the past few years, known as the 97 GCC success stories.

The forum's coordinator, Dr. Othman Al Khodor, said that the idea of gathering was initiated by the Al-Sane Administrative Consultants office.

He said the city of Dhahran was selected due to the fact that it represents an exemplary industrial location in the kingdom, in addition to the fact that the city has two industrial regions.

He said managers and leaders of 10 successful GCC ventures would review their work experience and administrative strategies during the forum, in addition to the problems they faced during their progress.

The director of Dubai's administrative department, Mohammed Al Abbar, will address the forum on the success of Dubai in becoming an economically feasible environment for the private sector to prosper and accordingly the national economy.

Al Khodor said the selection of the enterprises was based on a series of criteria, including, high standards of service, production, international awards, market share and the company's success in training and employing local manpower.

Also, among the standards of selection, he said, were the company's nonprofitable activities, strategies and ability to display its experience through its chief executive, who is preferably a GCC citizen.

He said companies are often nominated by the local chambers of commerce and industry and prominent economic figures based on their record, followed by the implementation of the previous standards which are checked by a team of experts. Al Khodor pointed out that many were the companies who met these standards but added that most of them had been honored over the past years.

He said the forum would include four workshops on innovation, bases of success, the general Agreement on trade and tariffs (GATT) and the strategies to deal with it.

A field visit is planned to the Saudi Museum of Oil History, the King Fahd Oil and Mineral University and other commercial and industrial facilities in the region.

An exhibition on successful companies will be held on the sideline of the forum with the participation of 25 GCC companies.
