Libya appeals for end to UN sanctions
Libya, Economics, 9/25/1997
Libya called for an end to economic sanctions at a meeting of top-level international financial officials yesterday.
"We call upon the world community to lift these unjust and unjustified sanctions imposed on Libya," Libyan Finance Minister Mohamed Beit Al Mal said in a statement to the annual meeting of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.
The UN sanctions were imposed after the Libyan government refused to extradite two men who were allegedly involved in the 1988 bombing of a Pan Am flight over Lockerbie Scotland, which killed 270 people, Al Ahran said today.
