Hariri cools the situation down
Lebanon, Politics, 9/25/1997

Prime Minister Hariri tried to calm public opinion in an exclusive interview on Future TV, after the general worry that followed the announcement of the cabinet meeting's results. He looked reassuring when he said that what happened was "not the end of the world," and denied rumors of his possible resignation. The prime minister affirmed that he isn't hopeless about the plan's fate, stating that the opposition has a political rather than economical dimension and noting that it doesn't provide an alternative for the plan.

He also confirmed that presidential as well as municipal elections will take place as assigned. He noted the importance of finding a solution to the displaced's problem. In addition to that, Hariri defended his government's achievements despite the many serious difficulties it has faced.

Hariri said that the best solutions for the present situation would be an increase in local production, a decrease in the budget deficit, firm measures on the financial and administrative plan and an increase in the treasury's income.
