Egyptian Museum tourist numbers back to normal
Egypt, Culture, 9/24/1997
The director of the Egyptian Museum, Dr. Mohammed Saleh, said that the number of tourists visiting the museum is back to normal. The museum had 4633 visitors yesterday, 3760 of which were foreign tourists and 873 Egyptian visitors.
He added that the tourist influx was not affected by the incident that occurred in Al Tahrir Square except on Thursday--the day of the incident--and Friday. Dr. Saleh asserted that the foreign tourists are not afraid after the last incident, considering it an individual act that could happen in any country of the world.
Dr. Saleh stated that the Ministry of Interior reinforced the security within and around the Egyptian Museum. Restoration works were resumed, which include installing the steps of the entrance and renovation of the halls containing Pharaonic treasures of different eras.
The Egyptian Museum was the scene of attack on a tourist bus which left 7 German tourists and 2 Egyptians dead.
