Mordechai threatens the Lebanese army
Lebanon, Military, 9/24/1997
Israeli Defense Minister Yitzhak Mordechai repeated his threats against the Lebanese army yesterday. He said that Israel will destroy anyone who bombs its forces. The Israeli minister's announcement was accompanied by some military movements in the south of Lebanon.
Lebanese army units fired at an Israeli warship that had approached the coast of Tyre while the Hizbullah forces launched strikes on five Israeli positions. Israel had attacked Nabatieh in the morning. In addition, Israeli helicopters massively flew over Nabatieh, Iqlim-Al-Tuffah, and Zahrani in the night. The Lebanese troops fired for half an hour at the Israeli helicopters in the skies of the northern sector.
Meanwhile, Israeli occupation troops continued to launch attacks against areas adjacent to the occupied zone of south Lebanon.
Security sources said Israel's artillery batteries stationed in Aishieh shelled the areas of Jabal Safi, Sujud, Uqmate, Jeba, Arabsalim, and Haboush.
In retaliation for Israeli attacks, Lebanese resistance-men rocketed and machine-gunned an Israeli military position in Beer Kelab in the occupied zone. A statement by Lebanese National resistance said the position was directly hit.
Another statement said later that a group of Lebanese patriots attacked an Israeli patrol near Aramta and casualties were reported among Israeli soldiers.
Earlier, another group raided a joint concentration of Israeli Lahd troops in Sweida. Resistance snipers, meanwhile, fired on two Lahd's Militia men who were directly hit.
Two Israeli military helicopters carried out a mopping-up operation against areas close to Toumat Niha, Jabal.
