Syria is keen on resuming negotiations
Syria, Politics, 9/24/1997

Syrian Vice President Mr. Abdulhalim Khadam met in Damascus at the Ministry of Information an Egyptian media delegation currently visiting Syria.

Mr. Khadam welcomed members of the delegation and expressed happiness over the meeting, hoping that the visit will give the Egyptian guests a chance to get acquainted with Syria's economic and cultural achievements.

Khadam stressed to the delegation the time-honored and friendly ties between Syria and Egypt and their continuity thanks to regular meetings between the Syrian and Egyptian presidents.

He also talked about joint efforts exerted by the two countries to establish a common Arab market as a prelude to join the international market.

He also called for reviving Arab solidarity and for adopting a united Arab stand capable of strengthening Arab unity and steadfastness, of preserving interests and dignity and of defending Arab causes.

With regard to Syria's attitude towards the peace process, Khadam said Syria is committed to a just and comprehensive peace based on international legitimacy resolutions and the land for peace principle as provided in Madrid's term of reference. "Syria is keen on resuming negotiations from the point where the process had stopped at," he said.
