Women aim to break society's silence on domestic violence
Regional, Culture, 9/24/1997
The Arab Women's Forum and a group of women's rights activists from Lebanon and three other countries began on September 23 a four-day training seminar to develop campaigns against the abuse of women, traditionally a taboo subject in the region's conservative societies.
The Lebanese council to resist violence against women, which is also participating in the seminar, decided to find refuge for abused women.
The forum also encourages countries to sign international agreements including the UN declaration for the eradication of all acts of discrimination against women.
