The Arab League warns Walt Disney
Regional, Politics, 9/23/1997
The General Secretariat of the Arab League decided to send a warning letter to the US-based Walt Disney company after the latter produced films which contain distorted portrayals of Arabs.
The General Department of Information at the Arab League received many letters from Arabs residing abroad about the many methods used by Walt Disney in its films to distort the history of Arabs and Muslims. The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee sent a letter to the Arab League detailing Disney's use of Arab characters in its films.
The General Department of Information decided to send a letter of warning to the US company as a first step in order to give it a chance to stop such productions. If the company continues to produce the same type of films and shows, the department may decide to boycott these productions in all the Arab countries.
