$63 million from the World Bank to Jordan
Jordan, Economics, 9/22/1997
The World Bank announced that it will offer Jordan two loans worth a total value of $63 million to help Jordan pave roads and restore tourist and archeological sites.
The council of the World Bank agreed to the first loan worth $32 million on the condition that the project concentrates on the archaeological area of Petra and on other areas of cultural and environmental importance.
The project, whose total cost is $44 million, will help the Ministry of Tourism and Archeology to establish policies that could develop the role of the private sector in promoting tourism.
The World Bank agreed to grant the second loan, worth $31 million, at the end of last month to finance the infrastructure expenses of paving roads, building sewage systems, lighting the streets, providing study halls, and establishing youth and medical centers.
These new projects are part of a greater project with a cost of $140 million which mainly aims to improve the living conditions in poor areas, in refugee camps and in 300 poor villages, in additions to establishing sewage systems and its treatment for refugee camps.
