Jordanian-Egyptian power grid to operate in December

Power Grid unification between Jordan and Egypt will start next December within the project of unifying the eastern Arab countries in one electric network to be later connected with the European unified grid, said Egyptian minister of energy Maher Abaza.
The cost of this grid reached $250 million, funded partialy by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development. Work is curently under way to extend a 13 Kilometer double circle marine cable 850 meters underneath the Gulf of Aqaba. The cost of the cable is estimated at $80 million, said minister Abaza after his meeting with his Jordanian counterpart Mohammed Saleh Al Horani, in a joint committee for technical cooperation in electricity.
