Official Moroccan delegation to visit desert provinces soon
Morocco, Politics, 9/20/1997
An official Moroccan delegation will visit the desert provinces soon to try to identify the problems of their residents in order to unite them with the public life of Morocco.
The visit aims to recognize the problems of the Sahraweens (residents of the desert provinces) who live in camps after they moved from the desert provinces, especially the northern provinces of El Sakya Al Hamra and Wadi Al Zahab. The visit also aims to register those residents on voting lists.
The problems of the residents of the desert provinces were raised many times by the Identity Committee as the UN specified precise criteria to identify the people of desert origins.
A delegation of the High Refugees Commission will submit a report to the international mediator James Baker, the former US Secretary of State.
