Egypt: Egyptian tanker port project
Egypt, Business, 9/19/1997
Cairo currently witnessed continuous ministerial meetings in order to implement a project that will be set up on the eastern side of the Al Tafria'a "waterway" by the Suez Canal. The project includes a tanker port, a dry basin to fix ships, and industrial, commercial, and tourist areas in which special laws will be applied.
The Egyptian Cabinet will receive next January a thorough study prepared by one of the international companies which is to tackle the technical and financial sides together with methods and means of implementing the project. The implementation of this project will start in the year 2001.
The Ministerial Committee that includes the Ministers of Transportation, Electricity, Defense, the Public Sector Affairs, Tourism, Housing, Trade, Finance, the Cabinet Affairs, Planning, Industry, Works, and the Head of the Trade Unions will discuss a number of studies submitted by the Australian company which runs a number of international airports, by the Singapore Port Authority, the company running Hong Kong Port, and the study prepared by the Netherlands to develop the ports in Egypt.
Egyptian Prime Minister Kamal Ganzouri instructed the Ministerial Committee to prepare detailed maps of the area specifying which elements of the infrastructure are available and which elements still need to be provided.
