Khalifa optimistic about Qatar border dispute settlement
Bahrain, Politics, 9/19/1997
During his visit to Cairo, Bahrain's Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, addressing a group of scholars, said that he hopes that there will be a solution to his country's border dispute with Qatar by the end of the year, according to a Gulf News report.
In May, Bahrain's Crown prince, Sheikh Issa bin Salman, called for uniting his country with neighboring Qatar, a move he hoped would end the territorial dispute, which has cast a shadow over relations in the Gulf.
A committee of four GCC states was set up to defuse tension between the two countries, and in March the two countries agreed to open embassies for the first time in each other's capitals.
