Former Sudanese official: Reconciliation proposal in Sudan
Sudan, Politics, 9/18/1997
The former Sudanese Foreign Minister Dr. Hussein Abu Saleh said that before he left his post, there was a proposal kept in secrecy that suggested forming the People's Front for National Dialogue. This front would include a group of Sudanese representing all the political powers in Sudan. The front's aim would be to work on stopping violence between the government and opposition forces and to solve the political problems through negotiations, which are the only means to reach a solution that would satisfy all parties.
Names of Sudanese constituting this front together with its activities were hidden and they still are. Abu Saleh mentioned that what is happening in the South and North of Sudan is a great danger to Sudan and its stability. He added that there are some external powers that exploit and create problems within Sudan and between Sudan and its neighbors in order to achieve particular goals. He stressed the need for reconciliation between the Sudanese on the one side and between Sudan and its neighbors on the other side.
He clarified that all the powers dominated by the USA adopt a unified stance toward Sudan in order to pressure it to take certain actions serving these powers.
