The Moon on its way to Qatar
Qatar, Science, 9/17/1997

The prestigious travelling exhibition from the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) is scheduled to open at the Qatar Scientific Club in early October. The exhibition, travelling outside the US and Canada for the first time, is scheduled to be open in Qatar for a week. The opening will be attended by a large number of dignitaries including top government officials, ambassadors and other guests.

The exhibition will include moon rocks and will be open to public with reserved hours for schoolchildren, families and women.

All the exhibits will arrive in Qatar on September 22 and be cleared in two or three days. But it will take another 10 days for the show to open so as to enable clubs from other Gulf countries to visit the show.

The club started its cooperation with Nasa last year when the vice chairman visited the United States. The exhibits, valued at nearly $27,500 for insurance purposes, are to include panel displays on the history of space flights, Nasa exploration of the solar system, space systems and future space shuttle programs.

Also on show will be models of space shuttles, moon rock replicas, lunar globe and a Mars globe. The manned space flight history panels will show the various space programs from the 1960s with the creation of Project Mercury and until the space shuttle program reached the operational phase in 1982.

Some panels will show space food, whereas others will depict the space shuttle of the future.

The club will have to pay for insurance and shipping. The exhibits are not for sale and will go back to the United States directly from Qatar. Products the club made for a recent exhibition in Pretoria, South Africa will also be included in the exhibition.
