Egypt allows Kurdistan Democratic Party to have Cairo office
Egypt, Politics, 9/17/1997
Egypt permitted the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) headed by Masoud Barazni to have an office in Cairo within its open door policy toward the Kurd faction in northern Iraq. An Iraqi opposition diplomatic source said that Egypt asked for the Party's commitments with the main principles in dealing with the situation in Iraq, especially keeping Iraq's unity and sovereignty. The permission came after discussions between Egyptian officials and Omar Botany, a member of the central committee of the party during his visit to Cairo between August 22 and 29.
Jalal Talibani's National Kurdistan Federation, a rival to the KDP, opened an office in Cairo last July after Talibani's visit to Egypt.
