The United States establishes electricity station in Tunisia
Tunisia, Economics, 9/17/1997

The American Company C.I.A.'s bid to establish a power generating station in the south of the Tunisian capital won the international tender.

The British Group N.B.A. came second and the US Intergin came third which means that one of them will replace the C.I.A. in case the latter fails to implement the project.

The cost of the project is estimated at $300 million financed by the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company. The project which will be established in the southern province of the capital is expected to be finished by the year 2001 to provide between 350 and 500 megawatt.

Japan had established the first power generating station in the same area in 1990 which is the main power station now. Tunisia has finally opened the door for the foreign investments to increase the volume of electricity. A study has expected a 7% annual increase in Tunisiašs needs from electricity which means that Tunisia will have to establish a new station each two years.
