Further Israeli attacks on Lebanon
Lebanon, Military, 9/17/1997
The Israeli occupation on September 16 shelled the UNIFIL Irish contingent in the western sector of south Lebanon. Security sources said that a number of Irish soldiers were setting up a new position near Bara'sheet town when they were exposed to the Israeli mortar shots.
There were no injuries among the international forces, the sources added.
The soldiers stopped work on the position, while their leadership protested to the Israeli occupation forces' leadership in occupied south Lebanon.
The Israeli occupation forces attacked with machine-guns and artillery the areas adjacent to occupied south Lebanon. The sources said the attacks were accompanied by Israeli warplanes' sorties over the western and central districts and Tyre.
Israeli occupation forces also carried out mopping operations with heavy machine-guns against the outskirts of Zabqin, Majdal Zoun, al Dub valley and al Nafkha valley.
The forces also continued to irritate Lebanese civilians in Ramya, Mais Al Jabal, Houla, and Erton villages, by breaking into their houses.
Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes launched provocative mock raids over Nabatieh and al Tuffah district.
The Lebanese army and resistance engaged the Israeli warplanes with anti-aircraft rockets.
It was also reported that Israeli military boats tried approaching the shore between Tyre and Al Zahrani, and two of them were about to reach the Khayzaran Shore, but they were turned back by the Islamic Resistance and the Lebanese Army, which spread its units on the shore and took the necessary measures to deter further Israeli commandos operations.
