Turkish president in Cairo
Egypt, Politics, 9/16/1997
The Turkish President Soliman Demeril arrived in Cairo Today to meet with President Hosni Mubarak within the continuing consultations between the two countries. A responsible source in the Turkish embassy stated that the talks tackled the joint maneuvers between Turkey, Israel and the USA in the Mediterranean due next November.
Syria, Iran, Egypt, and Iraq are among the Arab countries that condemned these maneuvers upon their official declaration last November. Egypt considered these maneuvers a negative message against the Arabs.
The Turkish source described the Arab reactions to the maneuvers as unjustifiable and exaggerated, saying that these maneuvers aim to achieve human goals. The Egyptian President's last visit to Turkey was in July 11, 1996.
