Syrian Algeria cooperation talks

A number of agreements between Syria and Algeria were signed in Damascus in the presence of the Syrian prime minister and members of the two countries' delegations.
The chairman of the Syrian Chamber of Commerce Union and the chairman of the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed an agreement to set up a council of businessmen.
A technical and scientific agreement was signed, an administrative agreement in the customs field and an agreement on avoiding double taxation were signed, also an agreement on encouraging investment in the economic field between the two countries was signed, an agreement in the information field cooperation was signed and an understanding memorandum between the foreign ministry of both countries was signed.
Diplomatic sources in Damascus stated that Syria is trying to convince Algeria not to participate in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Summit to take place in Doha, Qatar. The sources stated that Algeria backs Syria's position, which was clear after the discussions of the Syrian President Hafez Al Assad and the Algerian President Zeroual.
Algeria declared that it supports Syria's stances in the peace process and its request to restore the Golan Heights, which it lost in 1967, and also Syria's request to resume negotiations with Israel from the point at which they stopped last February.
Through its Foreign Minister Ahmed Al Ataf, Algeria criticized the policies of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to halt the peace process. The Algerian Foreign Minister reiterated his country's stance regarding the resolutions of the Arab Summit dealing with ways of stopping normalization with Israel if it is not committed to peace. He also stressed the importance of unified Arab work and the need to support it.
