Qassar elected president of Union of Arab Trade

Adnan Qassar, head of the Beirut Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was on September 14 elected president for the Union of Arab Trade, Industry and Agriculture Chambers during the council's annual meeting held in Oman.

Qassar replaces the Kuwaiti former president of the council, Abdel Razak Khaled, whose mandate fnishes this month.

After his election Qassar thanked the delegations taking part in the meeting and said he hoped he would succeed in serving the Arab economy and developing the Arab common market.

He called on the participants to encourage businessmen in their countries and to take part in the seventh conference for Arab businessmen and investors to be held in Lebanon.

The conference, scheduled for October, will focus on encouraging investment in Lebanon and examining the country's construction and development plans.

Qassar pledged he will work at establishing an Arab free trade market which would be the basis for the creation of an Arab economic bloc enabling members to confront the challenges of 21st century.
