Two Israeli soldiers killed, one wounded in south Lebanon
Lebanon, Military, 9/15/1997
Lebanese security sources confirmed the deaths of two Israeli soldiers as a result of the detonation of an explosive charge planted by the Lebanese national resistance movement.
The sources added that a third Israeli soldier was also injured in the blast.
A statement released by the Lebanese national resistance said that the unit of slain resistance-men Hadi Nasseralah and Ali Koutharani carried out the attack on an Israeli patrol near the town of Talousa.
In occupied Jerusalem, the Israeli army has acknowledged the killing of two soldiers in south Lebanon on September 14.
An army statement said that one soldier was killed instantly and the other died later of wounds suffered in the blast.
Meanwhile, Israeli occupation forces in south Lebanon shelled with heavy artillery a string of towns and villages of the central sector. The shelling included the towns of Talin and Majdal Salimsharkra, where phosphoric smoke and concussion shells were used.
No reports have been given on casualties.
Further reports said the Israeli occupation forces continued to attack areas adjacent to occupied south Lebanon in the western Bekaa.
Security sources said Israeli artillery positioned at Kawkaba hill and Tomat Niho shelled the al Daher mountain heights and the outskirts of Qilya, al Dalafa, Mashgara, Birket Al Jabour and Jabal Abou Rashed. In retaliation, the Lebanese national resistance attacked the Israeli occupation positions in Mash'aroun and al Qaseer areas with rockets, heavy machine-guns and mortar shots.
Resistance-men also attacked an on-foot troop, scoring direct hits.
In the evening, resistance-men attacked an Israeli position in al Hujair valley, scoring serious hits among its elements.
As a consequence of the unsteady situation in the region, numerous people gathered in the streets of Israel to protest against Israel's occupation of south Lebanon and ask for an unconditional retreat from occupied territories in Lebanon, in order to reach peace and security. The Israeli Minister of Internal Security asked Netenyahu's government to get all Israelis in the South out of Lebanon unconditionally. Nevertheless, Netenyahu said firmly that his government was the only one that could establish peace, despite the accusations of the opposition which says that Netenyahu provokes troubles in Lebanon, Israel and the whole region.
