Palestinians file complaint against Israel with ITO
Palestine, Economics, 9/13/1997
During the meetings of the European Foreign Ministers, due to be held in Luxembourg next Monday, the Palestinian Authority (PA) will submit economic files, documents and precise statistics to the International Trade Organization (ITO) and the European Commission (EC) to prove Israel's continuing violations of international trade principles and to request imposition of economic sanctions against Israel on this account.
The files list Israel's violations of ITO regulations, especially because Israel signed a general agreement with the organization.
Palestinian sources in Cairo declared that the PA received promises from European officials to study the possibility of imposing sanctions on Israel. The PA is trying to submit this request through Egypt, which is a member of the ITO. There might be a joint Egyptian Palestinian initiative as well in order to support the Palestinian request to force Israel to abide by the international trade agreements and to impose sanctions on Israel if it continues in its destruction of internal and external Palestinian trade.
