Angry with Lebanese, French singer refuses to show up for concert
Lebanon, Essay, 9/13/1997
French singer Francois Feldman, who was expected to come to Lebanon yesterday to give concerts for three days on September 12-14 canceled his visit to Lebanon at the last moment.
"Buzz Productions," the company that was organizing his concerts, announced on the eleventh--only one day before the expected event--that Mr. Feldman will not come to Lebanon anymore. He made the decision to express his anger against the Lebanese people, because of the death of Israeli commandos--who were obviously not in Lebanon for tourism, anyway.
The company apologized in an advertisement where it declared that the artist refused to change his mind, despite the interference of the French embassy and the French Cultural Center.
Feldman is a Jew, and this is the reason why he is so moved by the death of Israelis in fights with the Islamic Resistance and the Lebanese Army.
However, this singer is popular in Lebanon, where tickets for his concerts were sold in great numbers, despite the suffering of Lebanese from Israeli aggressions. The point is that these people are not fanatics and they know how to separate different questions to avoid confusing political and religious matters with artistic issues.
