Egyptian, Russian views identical regarding increasing number of Security Council members
Egypt, Politics, 9/12/1997

Assistant Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Sayed El Masry submitted a report to Foreign Minister Amr Moussa about his recent visit to Moscow.

The report indicated that Egyptian and Russian share the same views regarding increasing the number of the Security Council members from 21 to 26. Their views were also identical regarding the reform programs for the UN and the Security Council, Africa's need to have 2 permanent members in the Security Council, and identical treatment of countries with the right of veto and those without.

The Egyptian ambassador mentioned that negotiations with Russian officials tackled the issues of the agenda of the General Assembly of the UN in its session starting September 16. He added that Egypt will request limiting the use of veto power.
