Sudanese dialogue is the best formula for peace
Sudan, Politics, 9/12/1997
Dr. Mansour Khalid, the political advisor of John Garang, leader of the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) said that Garang's refusal to meet with Sudanese President Omar Bashir in South Africa has been embarrassing to the Sudanese regime.
He said that the regime intended to hold such a meeting in order to drive a wedge in the body of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), an umbrella group of rebel Sudanese factions, and sow the seeds of distrust between the SPLA and the Inter-Governmental Authority for Development--a coalition of African states that have participated in the Sudanese peace process.
Khalid mentioned that the dialogue between the Sudanese themselves for finding a solution to their problem is considered the best formula, Al Khartoum daily said today.
