Engineer Gamal Badran wins award for the Great Mosque design

The Executive Council of the Arab of the Housing and Reclamation Ministers decided in its 48th session to grant its first standing award for 1997 to Engineer Gamal Badran (Jordan) for his project of the Great Mosque and the parlor of Al Hakam Palace in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The second standing award was given to engineer Abdel Baqi Ibrahim (Egypt) for his project of Al Zahraa Mosque in Nasr City In Cairo.
The Council, which includes Egypt, Qatar, Morocco, and Jordan in its membership, passed the final draft of the Arab codes of designing and implementation of buildings. The Arab Conference of Restoring the Buildings will be held in September next year in Egypt.
The council ratified the celebrations for the Arab Housing Day in 1998 under the title "Housing: Potentialities and Participation." It asserted the importance of completing the steps taken to set up the information net of housing and reclamation development in the Arab nation, and the importance of realizing the potentialities of housing in the Arab world.
The council agreed on supporting the candidacy of Dr. Hoda Sakr, director of the General Authority of the Urbanization Planning, to be the executive director of the UN Settlements Office in Peru.
