Handicraft exhibition in Qameshli opened
Syria, Culture, 9/12/1997
An exhibition of handicrafts was recently opened in Qameshli in the western part of Syria displaying about 100 frames and more than 100 designs by the artist Tuma Elias inspired by his local environment.
The exhibition documents the most important political events that took place in Syria, with many world leader portraits. Commenting about his future works, the artist said that he was trying to collect pictures of the monuments constructed in public squares and make special busts for these monuments.
As he has experience as a poet, the sensitivity of the poet is crystal clear in many of his works, especially those dealing with nature and motherhood.
The handicrafts of the al Qameshli people are depicted in the exhibition as the artist tries to preserve the deeply-rooted heritage that dates back thousands of years.
