Jordan opposition denounces Turkey-Israel-US manoeuvres
Jordan, Politics, 9/11/1997

Jordanian opposition parties have strongly condemned the planned Israeli-Turkish-American military manoeuvres in the Mediterranean next November, describing them as posing a flagrant threat against Syria, which rejects conditions of surrender and pressure.

The 11 Jordanian opposition parties, which include the progressive Ba'ath party of Jordan, said in a statement on September 10 that the announcement of these military exercises comes in an atmosphere of tensions in the region that could develop into military confrontations as the Israeli government is wielding the sword of threats.

The statement said that these manoeuvres are considered a message for Syria after all methods of pressure against her to abandon her national stands have failed.

The statement added that the manoeuvres pose a threat to Arab national security, as they are part of a plan to totally subjugate the Arab region for the Israeli hegemony.
