Tourism revenues reach 3 billion dollar US dollars

Egypt's tourism minister told Emirates-based Al Bayan newspaper yesterday that 70 projects were currently being carried out on the north coast of Egypt with western investment.
The new projects include 10 giant tourist centers on an area of 640 million square meters with an estimated two billion Egyptian pounds.
The minister said that in 1996 tourism to Egypt increased by 24 percent. He noted that tourism was expected to increase by 10 percent annually until the year 2000.
He added that Egypt received nearly four million tourists last year, the highest number in the whole history of Egyptian tourism, bringing in a total of 3 billion US dollars, Al Anbaa Al Kuwitia said today September 11.
