Relations with Saudi Arabia are good says Iran as it prepares for Islamic Conference Organization
Regional, Politics, 9/10/1997

The Secretary General of the Islamic Conference Organization, Dr. EZ El Din El Iraqi (Morocco), will pay Iran an official visit next Saturday. This will be his first visit to Iran since he took office, succeeding Dr. Hammed El Ghabed. The visit comes within the efforts exerted by the Organization to hold the 8th Islamic summit due to be held in Tehran in December.

Dr. Iraqi will meet with Iranian President Mohammed Khatami and Iranian Foreign Minister Dr. Kamal Kherazy to study the agenda of the summit and means of boosting contacts between the Islamic countries to prepare for the summit in such a way as to cope with the realities facing the Arab and Islamic world.

Kings and Presidents attending the summit will discuss the resolutions of the UN General Assembly regarding the Israeli occupation of the Arab lands and its violations of human rights.

Sources ruled out the possibility that the Iranian foreign minister will make a tour in the Gulf countries in the near future, though Iran's relations with the Gulf countries tops the priorities of the new Iranian government.

Iran's ambassador to the organization asserted that the relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran are good and could move from the phase of showing good intentions to another phase where the frameworks are designed to advance the interests of the two countries. The first Iranian trade shipment to Saudi Arabia is due to arrive September 24 after a 10 year halt.
