Iraqi opposition reports possible ouster of information minister
Iraq, Politics, 9/10/1997
A mainstream Iraqi opposition group said on September 9 that the Iraqi president's regime has recently decided to sack Information Minister Hames Youssef Hamadi because of his failure to collect sufficient funds to organize an annual festival.
The supreme council of the Islamic revolution in Iraq reported that the Iraqi television and radio stations had decided to deduct 2,000 Iraqi dinars from salaries of their staff in July and August.
The collected fund was to be spent for holding the annual Babel festivities, a close sources to the ministry of information said.
The predecessor of Hamadi, Abdel Gani Abdel Ghafour, had also been sacked for the same reason.
