Memorandum from the opposition to King Hassan II
Morocco, Politics, 9/9/1997

Political sources in Morocco mentioned that the opposition parties submitted a detailed memorandum to the Moroccan monarch. It was submitted by the director of the Election Committee.

The memorandum contained opposition views regarding the regulatory laws of the Moroccan Parliament. It suggested decreasing the number of the parliament's members, which exceeded 600. It also asked Hing Hassan II to reconsider the election system, suggesting that the election could be held in two phases. It also suggested dividing election areas, and improving procedures in order to ensure the integrity of the election.

The Election Committee studied the regulatory laws of the Parliament, and Interior Minister Edris El Basry submitted a report that included the suggestions of all the political forces regarding these laws.

A member of the election commission said that all these issues were tackled in their meeting, and that the steps necessary to address these issues will be discussed in their upcoming meeting.
