Lebanon, Local, 9/9/1997

In an attempt to win international attention, a group of 30 Palestinian protesters submitted a list of demands to the United Nations headquarters in Bir Hassan, requesting United Nations secretary-general Kofi Annan exert pressure on the donor countries to meet their financial commitments to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

Letters of complaint were also sent to the Lebanese embassies of the donor countries, the International Red Cross, and the Arab League.

The eighth striker to collapse, Fouad Ramzi, was admitted to Haifa hospital in Bourj al Barajneh refugee camp.

The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine urged the Palestinian refugees to hold a general strike on September 9 and sit-ins tomorrow September 10.

Up to 2,400 UNRWA employees in Lebanon will hold a one hour strike on September 9, the time set for the donor countries to meet with the host countries and the UNRWA in Amman the Jordanian capital. Lebanon will be represented at the meeting by ambassador William Habib.
