Syrian student released exposed to difficult conditions
Syria, Politics, 9/9/1997

Israeli occupation authorities on September 8, released the Syrian woman Elham Abu Saleh from the occupied Golan.

In its release decision, the Israeli court has ordered Abu Saleh, a university student, placed under house arrest in Majdal Shams.

The student's lawyer described the conditioned release decision as an Israeli admission of her acquittal of the charges which Israeli authorities tried to stick to her.

Following her release from the jail, she stressed that she had been exposed to hard and difficult conditions during the period of detention, renewing her intention to return to Syria to pursue her university study immediately after the end of the partial detention.

Abu Saleh, a 30-year-old Druze from the Golan Heights said: "Israeli forces kept on saying, "You will tell the truth in the end." And I was always saying: I'm telling you the truth."

The student Elham Abu Saleh was arrested two weeks ago on charges of giving security information to Syria.
