Makka to host international Quran contest

As many as 118 contestants representing 37 countries and 36 Islamic centers and societies will take part in the 19th international Quran contest organized by the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
The competition will be held Mekkah from September 20-October 1 according to Abdul Aziz Al Subaiheen, secretary general of competition. The ministry has stepped up preparations on order to make the event a resounding success.
The contest will be held in five categories, 25 contestants will participate in the first category and 41 in the second, 38 in the third, 39 in the fourth and 39 in the fifth category.
The annual competition is held to encourage Muslim youth in the Islamic world to memorize the Quran and understand the meaning of its verses.
