Mubarak receives hand-written-message from Comoros president
Comoros, Politics, 9/8/1997

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak received a hand written-message from Comoros President Mohamed Taqi El-Din today. Taqi's special envoy to Egypt and the Arab League (AL), Mizwar Abdallah delivered the message.

"The government sent forces but they failed to change the situation because of external intervention," Mizwar said. The Comoran government sent troops in to stop a secessionist movement on the island of Anjouan, suffering losses and withdrawing.

"Our forces are back at the capital, and we came to Egypt and the AL secretary general Esmat Abdel-Maguid, to inform them about the latest developments. The international and African society should be informed as well, so that we may reach a final solution," Mizwar added.

Mizwar said: "There is already a foreign intervention backing the separatists. We made sure of that when separatists were discovered to have heavy and developed weapons."

The AL council will convene an emergency meeting Wednesday to discuss the present situation on Anjouan.

Meanwhile, the conflict-settlement mechanism would hold a meeting in Addis Ababa Tuesday to review the current Anjouan situation.
