Main canal project in Raqqa inaugurated

A ceremony was held in Raqqa to celebrate water flowing in the main canal from 569 km away to irrigate a 35,000 hectare area in the Baalikh Basin reclaimation project.
Approximately 40 km of the canal will be completed by September 13, irrigating an additional 6,900 hectares.
Work on the remaining part of the Chuina water project, an addition to the main canal which will irrigate 11,000 hectares, is scheduled to be completed quickly.
The total cost of the reclamation project and constructing roads and sub canals is about SP 1.5 billion.
The work will be done by the Rima company and the Military Housing Establishment branch in Raqqa by the middle of next year. The governor of Raqqa and a number of senior officials in the governorate attended the opening ceremony.
