Sudanese opposition official: No cooperation with Israel
Sudan, Politics, 9/6/1997
El Tegany El Tayeb, member of the leading body of the Sudanese opposition Democratic Gathering expected that Sudanese government forces will not achieve any victory in the South nor in the East. He said that what the Sudanese government declares is untrue, and that it is afraid of Garang's anger. Rebel leader John Garang refused to meet with the government leaders.
He also rejected the idea that the dissenters who recently joined the government forces would weaken the will of the opposition soldiers, saying the dissenters do not have any military power. He added that Israel does not offer any help as all the plans are decided by the opposition political leaders through agreement. There are no individual decisions.
"The opposition forces do not cooperate with Israel, as Israel wants to divide Sudan which is not our aim," he added. "We fight to achieve justice, which is contrary to what Israel is doing with the Palestinians and in south Lebanon."
El Tayeb rejected the idea of the existence of outside dangers against Sudan. Sudan does not face any dangers from outside. The powers outside Sudan try to stop it from exporting terrorism, from violating the human rights, and from forcing the children into the war, he said.
