A young farmer in upper Egypt accidentally killed himself, shooting himself by mistake while he was tampering with his father's pistol in a sugar cane field, a police source said yesterday.

The source said that Abdul Nahi Mohamed Abdul Khaarim, 22, died at hospital of a fatal wound after being hit by a bullet shot by mistake from a hand gun.

Khaarim pulled the trigger believing that the gun was not loaded, firing a bullet into his chest, said the source.

The prosecution sent his body for an autopsy, and after verifying that there was no criminal element involved in his death, a burial permit will be issued said Al Khabar.
