Lebanese cabinet met to stop social and political chaos
Lebanon, Politics, 9/4/1997

As planned, the Lebanese cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, met yesterday evening at the Presidential Palace. After the meeting, Minister of Information Bassem Al-Saba announced what problems the ministers dealt with, and the resolutions they took about some of them, waiting for President Hrawi's return from Brazil to solve others.

Their objective is to stop social and political chaos, and to assure financial aid for displaced citizens, through realizing economic reforms. The first goods on which taxes are going to be increased are imported cigarettes (the increase will be 10%), while the proposal of Prime Minister Hariri to raise car and gas prices was rejected for the moment. The subject of helping the village of Jezzine by buying its apples was evoked once more, and Ministers reminded the necessity of making sacrifices for the villages and the people in need.
