Arab and international condemnation of Algerian massacres
Egypt, Politics, 9/3/1997
Arab and international condemnation of the massacres committed in Algeria continued. In a statement Al Azhar affirmed that "those who commit these brutal murders do not belong to any religion.... should be severely punished." It added that the Islamic jurisdiction prohibited manslaughter except for applying justice; it prohibited killing children, women and the weak who do not commit any crime.
The statement described the massacres in Algeria as "criminal brutal acts despised by the human mind."
The Arab League also condemned the massacres. Its secretary general sent a letter of condolences to the Algerian president, Lamine Zeroual in which he expressed the Arab League's support of the actions taken by Zeroual in facing the forces of evil.
Abdul Meguid affirmed that the Algerian people and government are able to uproot this criminal phenomenon and the terrorists responsible for it.
