Accused for spying, Syrian student's requests rejected
Syria, Judicial, 9/3/1997

Israeli occupation authorities continued to reject any meeting to be held between detained Syrian student Elham Abu Saleh and her relatives to force her to admit to the accusations to which the Israeli authorities want her to confess.

The Israeli court in Acre on September rejected Saleh's lawyer Nabih Abu Shaker's request to see her and to be briefed on the circumstances of her detention.

Meanwhile, the General Federation of Syrian Women in the Golan yesterday condemned the detention of Syrian female student Elham Abu Saleh.

In its statement the Federation asserted that the detention of Elham Abu Saleh, who studies at Damascus University, is a result of her loyalty to her country.

The Federation expressed fear that the measures taken by the occupation forces aim at preventing students in the Golan from studying at Syrian Universities, and said that the detention strengthens the resolve of women in the Golan to continue the struggle to force the occupation forces to withdraw.
