Tunisia signs a contract with the French Alcatel telecommunications company

Officials in the telecommunication sector announced that Tunisia signed a contract with the French Alcatel company to install a net for the operation of cellular phones, working with the GSM system.
The agreement was signed on the Tunisian side by the National Department of Telecommunication. Through this agreement a network of 130 subscribers will be installed which will cover the suburban, industrial, and main tourist areas in Tunisia from the northern city of Benzert to the southern island of Gerba. The net is scheduled to start operating in the first quarter of 1998.
